We are all ready to put 2020 behind us, and that goes for its fashion trends too. Let’s be honest, with pretty much everyone working from their couches last year, 2020 brought with it the resurgence of sweatpants and the messy top bun. While they have a place, many are ready for a change. People are anxious to feel fresh and, dare we say it, professional again. Although Zoom meetings are still currently the norm that doesn’t mean we have to look like we’re gearing up for a binge-watching session of "Tiger King". In 2021 the new trend is to glam up, at least from the waist up. With all this increased screen time more women are spending less money on cute shoes and handbags and putting more emphasis on eye makeup, earrings and necklaces, drawing attention to their face.
Want to look your best on your upcoming conference calls? What accessories are trending in 2021? We took a look at the runways and got insight from Vogue to see the top styles that are ahead of the curve this year. Can’t afford these high end pieces? Don’t worry – we offer affordable alternatives that still give you the winning looks.
Trend #1: Color
The runways are full of color, color, color! It almost doesn’t matter which colors, as long as
there are a lot of them. Vibrant hues around your neck and on your ears are a great way to freshen your daily conference appearance. Vogue calls it the “Rainbow Coalition.” Want the look for less? ThinkTwyce took this trend seriously and created these colorful rainbow earrings from paper in a variety of hues. A steal at only $27, so you can still look and feel runway ready!
Trend #2: Links and Chains
Chunky chains and large links around the neck and wrist are everywhere this season. Hefty chains add a level of edge to a sophisticated look – perfect for nailing that online interview or online presentation. Don’t want the weight of heavy links weighing on your neck? This “Paper Chain Necklace” is a light-weight option that still helps you nail
the look.
Trend #3: Abstract Artistic Expression
Funky shapes and abstract forms also make an appearance on this year’s runway. Designers tended to go big, with large and exaggerated shapes. While these super-sized accessories may not be practical for everyday wear, you can certainly infuse this abstract trend into more feasible pieces. ThinkTwyce played with shape and color to create a variety of options inspired by some of the greatest abstract artists in history at a fraction of the cost (and size!)
of the designer options. These trendy earrings will be the perfect inspiration when you need to channel your creativity!
Trend #4: Everyday Objects and Tools
Birds, bows, stars, locks and keys are all objects that high-end designers turned into inspiration for jewelry this year. Earrings, necklaces and rings in the shapes of these items transform the normal into something to behold (plus it’s fun!). Vogue believes these pieces make great conversation starters. Who doesn’t need a way to break that awkward silence at the beginning of Zoom meetings? We personally love the symbolism of specific objects, such as keys and lockets that harken wisdom, love and secrets! Check out the ThinkTwyce collection of “everyday objects” in jewelry form to add some whimsical, communicative (and affordable!) pieces to your personal collection.
Trend #5: Optical Illusions
Surrealism and what the French call the trompe l’oeil effect makes dressing up easy. Designers use this “trick of the eye” in 2021 to create jewelry that essentially isn’t jewelry.
T-shirts and dresses with images of colorful layered necklaces printed on them is one example of this popular look on the runway. ThinkTwyce loves this trend of creating an optical illusion and designed a version of a “pearl” necklace without the pearls. These “pearls” are made with carefully layered paper that’s been treated to create a durable collar necklace that we think everyone from Audrey Hepburn to Ruth Bader Ginsburg would be proud to wear. The best part? These faux pearls are not only trend setting, but at just $31, come in at a price tag significantly less than real pearls. And that’s no optical illusion!
We couldn’t be happier with the trends of the new year. If there’s anything that may get us excited about Zoom meetings, it’s fun jewelry! Thank you, 2021!
